The train rumbles to a stop suddenly. The lights start to flicker on the train in all of the compartments. The air goes cold, and the window starts to frost over. You can see your breath. However, despite the cold, you can feel a wave of depression hit you like a sack of bricks. When you look to the aisles, or if you open your compartment door, you see a hooded figure, there's these figures checking each compartment. When you look to the window you can see them flying around outside.
If you've been raised by wizards you likely know they are Dementors and looking for Sirius Black on the train. If not, well you're in for a nice ride. Of course not all wizards know about dementors and how they're likely searching for Sirius Black.
[Some replies are likely not around where you are, so try to keep track of your position relative to others on the train when responding to this thread. Also this will take place after all currently started threads, and any threads started after this post are after this event].
Still distraught over stupid brother being stupid, she really didn't notice the train stop, nor the chill that started to creep into the air. Probably not the smartest thing, this, as her compartment door slid open nosily. Alone and already depressed, the dementor leers at her. They were looking for Sirius Black, why wasn't this one moving on? The chill was causing her to shake and her teeth to chatter and finally her senses caught up to the danger she was in. Her head shot up and around to where the dementor was, fishing her wand out of the coat she wore she pressed herself against th window of the compartment, which in itself was frosted over from the chill the dementor gave off.
Fuck, fuck, fuck! Think happy Hunter! What was that spell again?
Her wand brandished, she fought her brain for the correct spell.
Remus had just left the compartment to talk to the conductor about the train stopping when he felt the cold chill run down his back. He knew what it was – he had trained himself because he was worried he’d be sent to Azkaban for being a werewolf, or if he harmed anyone while he wasn’t in control. Along with the fact he loved magic and wanted to learn all he could while he was at Hogwarts since he thought it was only a matter of time before they kicked him out. He trained very hard and he was a very accomplished wizard as shown by his magical abilities.
However, that cold feeling kept creeping up on him and he looked around seeing a dementor nearby. He quickly cast the spell and his wand erupted with a light, purposefully non-corporeal, but driving the dementor off nonetheless. If the dementors were on the train and… and they were looking for Sirius Black, of course, would they be able to deny the meals sitting right in front of them? Especially those with horrors in their past –
Rose.
His heart was pumping fast, the sound of his heart hammering against his chest, and he quickly ran down the train’s corridors to reach the compartment where he had left Rose… That’s when he saw the dementor. Without a word he cast the spell, the light spills forth into the compartment and driving the dementor away, again non-corporeal just in case someone saw. As someone skilled with non-verbal and wandless magic, according to Rowling herself, the spell was powerful even without a word, driving the hooded creature away.
“Rose!” He rushed into the compartment to check to make sure she was alright. He needed to check on the other students, so he couldn’t stay here too long, but he wanted to check on her first before he rushed off – she was likely going to follow him and he knew that already. He just would protect her too.
Willow had been sleeping on and off since Rose left. Spending time with that girl truly left one exhausted. Satisfied but exhausted. He woke up to the train suddenly stopping. That was...ominous. Then the lights started flickering. And the air went cold and oh god suddenly he hurt. A deep emotional pain. He remembered the hard days, the lonely days. Tears began flowing. That could mean only one thing. Dementors. But why-
Of course. Black. That escaped convict. Come back to finish the job on Potter, possibly. This would be a good opportunity. If he could capture Black he would distinguish himself as a promising young wizard. Willow needed a win like this, some taste of glory. Then another thought occurred.
Rose. He needed to find Rose. Help her. He knew Patronus. He could keep the dementors at bay if they got to handsy.
He raced off in search of Roses compartment. Holding onto his happiest memories tightly. He ran towards the back of the train. Calling out Roses name all the while. His Expecto patronos charm at the ready.

Hermione was wandering the corridor again, holding Crookshanks this time and still looking for the missing Harry and Ron. She suspected they were holed up somewhere playing wizard's chess or something of the like. What a violent game! Hermione was certain she would never forget the life size version that horrified her in their first-year. Not to mention, she was becoming frustrated for she really needed to remind them that they needed to get their robes on. They always forgot.
Unfortunately, the train came to a sudden stop before she could find them, and she jolted forward slightly before regaining her balance as the lights began to flicker. Hermione rubbed Crookshanks head, trying to comfort the animal as well as calm herself, but the cat leaped from her arms, leaving deep scratches in his wake. Hermione gasped softly and placed her hand over the cuts in her arm. But before she could begin to worry about them, a hooded figure appeared in the aisle with her. If she hadn’t already read her Defense Against the Dark Arts text on dark creatures for this year, she wouldn’t have recognized it. But, naturally, Hermione had already read about the creature in front of her. It was dementor, and Hermione had no idea what to do now.
A patronus charm was the necessary spell, but she did not know how to cast one. The theory was far more advanced than Third Year so the text had not expanded on the actual casting of the spell. Hermione pulled out her wand anyway, but her ability to critically think was fading with every passing moment. The cold and miserable feelings she was having were making her despondent. Her fear was beginning to overwhelm her when the cloaked figure turned into a compartment and opened the door.
Just as Hermione was able to gasp an almost sobbing breath, Professor Lupin shoved passed her and a bright light burst from his wand. It wasn’t until after the creature was driven off that Hermione found that she had stumbled to the floor. She stood up with the help of the wall, but did not know what else to do at that moment but breath. There was blood all over her arm and hand, but she didn't notice. It was taking a minute for her senses to return to their natural state.

lexander Root was having a jolly good time in his compartment with a few other students who hated his guts. He’d been dragged there when the train first departed and well, after a few words there were punches thrown his way, as these kids knew he likely could counter if they tried to jinx him. The more he got beat up, the less they would take out on the kid who actually did the thing they were angry at – Root just took the blame and made them even more mad at him, so they left the other kid alone. They kept asking if he had enough when his nose got broken, telling him to apologize. He refused. The prideful idiot. Lucky for him one of the prefects stopped by, seeing him injured.
He fell, he claimed he was clumsy and the other were helping him. The prefect didn’t look convinced, but Root shrugged. Unfortunately, healing magic wasn’t a common class at Hogwarts so there wasn’t much he could do other than clean up the blood and give him something to use to hold his nose. Luckily, his glasses were mended. Alexander just accepted it and made his way out of the compartment, leaving the kids with the prefect. He was pretty sure the prefect didn’t believe him, but he didn’t care all that much. He accomplished what he set out to do and so he was doing just fine.
However, it wasn’t long after that as he was roaming around looking for a seat with someone, when the train rocked slightly. Root looked around curiously pushing up his glasses with a curious look on his face and when the dementor floated by the window he jumped back with a worried look. He saw one down the corridor and he just bolted. That was why he wasn’t in Gryffindor. His preferred method if possible was to run, but earlier that wasn’t a possibility, what with the fists at his face and hands holding him in the confined space.
As he ran, he quickly slammed into a small group that seemed to be forming out of the compartments, specifically into the glasses wearing fellow.
"Expelliarmus!" That one just went right through it. "Expulso!" Ha, good try Hunter.
"Ex... ex..." oh she was really racking her brain now, holding tightly onto the happy thought she had managed to dredge up even with this stupid train ride. She probably would have had a happier one if Remus hadn't been such an idiot. Meeting Willow as good, but it just wasn't enough. The one she had was the closest she could do for now. It wouldn't produce a corporeal Patronus, she knows; and that's probably a good thing.
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" she finally barked, and man did it sound like a bark when she said it, and a blast of white light shot out of her wand, just as one also came from the left side of the doorway. Her breathing was laboured and her eyes sought her brothers, just for a brief moment, before adverting them. She didn't know what to do or say, at this point, other than shove a chunk of chocolate in her mouth, instantly feeling... just marginally better.
Stupid things; she thought bitterly to herself. Her head popping up at the sound of her name. "Willow? You came too?"
His eyes connected with her for just a brief moment, a moment that felt like it lasted forever. How does a moment last forever? Either way, he was just worried but seeing her pull out the chocolate made him feel better. She did at least know that remedy. Remus pulled a chocolate bar from his robes and quickly turned towards Hermione who was bleeding. After quickly using a healing spell to heal her arms up and stop the bleeding he handed her a piece of chocolate.
“Eat it. You’ll feel better.” Remus gave Hermione a small smile before he turned towards the other two boys who ended up in the same area – one even running into the other. That’s when he heard Rose speak one of their names. Willow. Hm. Which one was it? Who was the little guy he would need to watch? Knowing Rose, it was probably the Slytherin. He didn’t have anything against Slytherin, of course, but he also was wary given most death eaters tended to come from the house. He wouldn’t judge the kid before knowing him, other than thinking about how this kid could possibly hurt his baby sister.
He offered a hand to the two boys to help them up. “Isn’t he a bit young for you, Rose?” He was still wearing a warm smile, something to reassure them. Rose did look happy when she first saw him, and while he was afraid she was going to be crushed, at least right now she was at least somewhat happy, with friends. Just like he had before everything went downhill. It was just going to make for painful memories in the future.
Handing each boy a piece of chocolate, he gave them the same advice as he did Hermione, since Rose was already on it. “Eat it. You’ll feel better.” Finally, he looked back at Rose and then back at Hermione and shook his head. It was still cold, which meant there were still more around. It wasn’t common practice that dementors searched the train. And there was still Harry to find – they would target him most of all given the horrors in his past.
“Get into that compartment. I’ll charm it so dementors can’t enter this section of the train, it won’t last long but it should last long enough for them to leave. I need to check to make sure everyone else is alright. It’s safe here.” He nods and looks at Rose with a look that said ‘please’, having a feeling these kids would want to join him. Regardless of their answer, Remus started running off down the train checking each compartment window to make sure everyone was alright, heading to the front of the train itself. He didn’t check to see if anyone followed, but he would make sure to scold them if they did.
Before he knew it he was knocked on his butt by some Hufflepuff running into him.
"Mind being more careful? If I'm going to get my soul sucked out I would rather have it happen on my feet. " He said, using a bit of gallows humor.
"Of course Rose, I couldn't leave you unprotected." He said giving her a smile. Though it seemed he had to contend with an overprotective...what exactly? He gladly accepted the chocolate and ate it quickly. The older guy, whoever it was, seemed nice enough though.
"I-U-uh." Willow stuttered and just stopped. He had no response to Remus' claim that he was too young for her.
Thankfully he let not long after.
"Let's get inside Rose." Willow said and approched the compartment.

Before Hermione realized what was happening, her arm was healed and Prof. Lupin was handing her a piece of chocolate. She took it and began to nibble on it, feeling better instantaneously. Of course, she had read about chocolate helping in a library book last year, and Prof. Lupin’s spell had just been spectacular to watch. She wondered if he would go over the details with her sometime, but right now didn’t seem like a good moment to ask.
Lupin’s gentle smile was comforting to Hermione as she finished the chocolate bar and the final waves of terror dissipated. Lupin was telling the others get into the compartment, but Hermione had still not found Harry and Ron. She needed to know that they were okay. Harry specifically. Dementors were attracted to those with horrors in the past, he would’ve attracted them.
“Umm, sir.. I’m sorry, but I need to find Harry and Ron.” Hermione said. Part of her was screaming to obey the order and get into the compartment, but the more loyal, Gryffindor in her told her that finding her friends was top priority right now.

oot tilted his head when the older man helped him up along with the kid he had run into. Soul sucked out? Wait, were there dementors around? That did make sense why it got so cold so suddenly. But why would they be here? Sirius Black wasn’t on the train… right? Oh god what if he was on the train?
Wait. Why was this guy worried about having his soul sucked out? Could he be Sirius Black in disguise? Then why was no one else trying to grab him? Oh no, were they all working with Sirius Black? Did he walk into a murder meeting? Then again, why would the older man give him chocolate if he wanted to murder him… unless he thought he was a dog. He was a bit young to shave! He didn’t even have that much facial hair! Well, his mother did call him a puppy dog sometimes. Oh no, did they talk to his parents? Oh no. His father probably sent them here to kill him and they took her words too literally! Not that his mother would condone it, she would probably would have not known what is going on. Damn his clever father.
The variety of people who gathered here too! Sirius Black disguised as a Slytherin! A Ravenclaw and a Gryffindor! Of course, there were no Hufflepuffs around, they were too nice and could never murder. So, this was going to be how it ends… He had so much to live for. He had so many thoughts, so many ideas… If he was going to be killed, he was going to take his work with him. He reached into his jacket and touched his journal ready to destroy it if they made any threatening moves.
He had to play it cool. If they weren’t after him, but this was indeed Sirius Black and his friends, then he needed to make sure they didn’t know he figured them out. “Well I’m pretty sure if a dementor tried you’d fall off your feet and hit your head even if someone saved you near the end. Anyways, there’s no reason for them to suck your soul if, you know, you aren’t Sirius Black. You aren’t Sirius Black right?” Smooth. Really smooth Root.
Honestly, she was still feeling quite a bit faint and she barely heard Willow over the roaring of blood in her ears. Why were these things affecting her so strongly? She closed her eyes against the wave of dizziness, grabbing onto the closest person arm, which happened to be Willow. She couldn't help it, her head was swimming. She had been just fine a moment ago, but here she was, struggling to stay awake. She reached for the chocolate bar in her coat, take a bit more of that in and closed her eyes. It had been a little while since she had left Willow after... her eyes sought his a moment, and he genuinely seemed worried about her and with what strength she had, she pulled him closer, giving that smile again as she wrapped her arm around his shoulder.
"Now, now boys. Don't fight," she said, voice much stronger than she felt, feigning ignorance at Remus' comment, other than a well placed heated glare. "Sirius Black is not on this train. This whole Dementor Inspection was unnecessessarry and just made undue stress on a whole bunch of kids. "
The compartment door finally closed, she took a few moments to sit and compose herself, still feeling cold and clammy and her head still swimming. She really did need to check on the others, but dammit, that dementor really got to her! She continued to eat the chocolate, praying that this feeling would pass.
"I'm not Sirius Black. Why would you even think that? Dementors don't discriminate." Willow said, shaking his head. He felt oddly irritated. Willow also too note of the Gryffindor girl. She was the one who was always with Potter. Hermione...or some such. Willow liked to keep somewhat up to date on their activities. They seemed important.
Then Rose grabbed a hold of his arm, she seemed faint. He felt himself blush again, as she gave that wonderful, cursed smile. "O-ok."
Willow pulled himself together as Rose sat down. He had to stay alert. Even if Black wasn't here, Dementors were dangerous. His mother had warned him of that often enough.
It shouldn't have happened but you let it Now you're down on the ground screaming medic The only thing that comes is the post-traumatic stresses Shields, body armors and vests don't properly work That's why you're in a locker full of hurt The enemy within and all the fires from your friends The best medicine's to probably just let it win
These battle scars don't look like they're fading
[Gonna start this one out with a quick Remus quote]
“That was the plan, Hermione. Come along carefully if you insist.” With that, Remus was certainly gone now, the train still a bit cold, probably because there was at least one dementor left…
[Going to Harry’s Perspective]
Harry had been in a compartment with his friend, Ron Weasley, and just as Hermione had thought, they were playing wizard’s chess, and well Hermione wasn’t around. They figured she was just off finding somewhere to read, so it wasn’t a big deal. Harry had won one out of five games against Ron. Ron was honestly really good at it, but Harry had fun with it anyways. He still beat him once so that was progress. However, it wasn’t too long into the ride that the train stopped and the two exchanged a look of confusion. Harry rose and looked out of the compartment, seeing the lights flickering before turning off. After a scared sound from Ron, he turned back and saw a bottle of water starting to freeze up and the windows starting to frost.
Harry quickly closed the door and sat down next to Ron, the two talking and wondering what was happening. It was extremely cold, so he sat there shivering and even reaching up into his trunk to pull out a sweater Mrs. Weasley had made for him last year. It fit, but just barely. It was better than anything else really. As he started to put it on, however, Ron made another frightened sound and Harry looked to the door where he was looking seeing a hooded figure on the other side. Harry’s eyes widened as the figure moved the compartment door showing itself as a hooded skeletal figure.
Fast breaths. Waves of depression. Cold. It’s ‘face’ turned towards him. He could feel all the happiness draining. He saw a flash of light. Green Light. A scream. A bright. White light. And then. Darkness.
[Back to Remus here!]
Barely in time, he cast his patronus, again, purposefully non-corporeal, but powerful enough to send the dementor flying away quickly. Remus took in a deep breath and quickly went to Harry’s side. He helped lean him against the seat and quickly pulled out some chocolate offering it to Ron and then took a seat across from him. With Hermione likely behind him, he also offered her a little bit more chocolate given the proximity to the dementor. Everyone should have chocolate. Chocolate for everyone.

Hermione did insist so she followed Prof. Lupin closely as he sped off. She held her wand in her hand though she didn’t know how she would use it against a dementor. Prehaps Prof. Lupin would teach her that charm if she asked him. Now, was obviously not the appropriate time to ask. They were making their way quite quickly down the aisle, Lupin checking compartments as they went, he probably wouldn’t hear her right now so the question would have to wait for later.
Returning her thoughts to Ron and Harry, Hermione felt concern and fear well up. She shoved them back down to a place inside of herself where she could ignore the feelings. There was a reason she was a Gryffindor, and a good thing she was as another hooded figure appeared in front of them. It was going into a compartment when Prof. Lupin cast another patronus charm. Odd that it was only light. Hermione had read that they took the shape of animals in full form. Perhaps Lupin could not cast a full one or maybe driving off one dementor didn’t need the power of the full spell. Hermione would look it up later.
Anyway, she did not have time to worry about that right now because she realized that it was Harry that the dementor had attacked. “Harry!” she gasped and rushed to his side. She looked over Ron as she went to make sure he was ok. He was pale and frightened, but seemed otherwise alright. Hermione helped Prof. Lupin lean Harry against the seat and then took the chocolate he offered. She didn’t take a bite, however, for she was far more worried about whether Ron and Harry where eating theirs.
“Are you guys alright?” she asked, a bit out of breath and thoroughly worried for them.
