Whatever preconceived notion one would have when looking at Remus right now, they would know this was definitely a date. He had gotten himself cleaned up nicely, even repaired a bit of the shabby suit he was wearing to look not quite so shabby. His hair was combed neatly like usual, but earlier in the day, Remus had been looking in a mirror combing his hair almost obsessively if even one hair was out of place. All day in class he seemed slightly different, almost a bit happier than usual.
Now he was in his office after class had finished. He had requested the house elves to prep some food for the night, though he had a hard time deciding what exactly and so there was some soup, a bit of steak, potatoes, and some pumpkin juice. He had realized he had no idea what her tastes in food were, so he was hoping this was going to be alright for her. It would be terrible if she was a vegetarian and he had just set up a meal like this for her. He made sure to keep that in mind and told the elves he might have an order in the middle of this dinner so to keep an ear out for him.
Hagrid had helped find a few flowers to use as a centerpiece, and he was pacing back and forth nervously. Was she even going to show up? He wasn’t sure. He hoped she did, but also hoped she wouldn’t at the same time. There were butterflies in his stomach flapping around and making him feel queasy at the notion of having dinner with Nymphadora Tonks. He kept coaching himself on things to make sure to say and avoid – such as constantly talking about himself. He had a list of possible questions he could ask over the course of the night, but he also didn’t want to seem like he had rehearsed them.
This wasn’t a date, he kept telling himself, so why are you so nervous? It wasn’t a date. It was just dinner with an amazing, beautiful, talented young lady who took every chance to snog him it seemed. Oh god. Were they going to kiss again tonight? Those butterflies became more restless.

Was she nervous at this very moment? Hell yes. Was she going to let it show? Maybe just a tad. But she was Nymphadora Tonks, she may be clumsy, but she was one of the highest rated Auror interns in the ministry.
And she was headed off for a date with a one Remus Lupin. To say she was excited was an understatement. She had gotten permission from Dumbledore to pop home quickly and grab a different set of clothing than what she would normally wear and the sexiest pair of heels she could find that was still in good shape. Luckily for her, there was a pair of dark red stilettos and she had purchased not too long ago in a muggle shop that would go along beautifully with the little black dress she wore. It was form fitting but also slightly loose on her hips, giving her range of movement, regardless of being dressed nice, if she had to duel a madman, she'd be able to do it in style.
The heels clicked rhythmically along the cobble floor, heading towards his office. Rose has intercepted her on her way down, inspecting her look, and gave her a thumbs up, a hug and a good luck. That girl really did look after her own brother's happiness but in the most unobtrusive way possible. And again, she really was adorable. She could see why she meant the world to Remus. Even Tonks was starting to feel a sense of protection for her. Maybe it had something to do with that... well, someone with more divining powers than her would call it a vision, but, it was more of an idea that popped into her head and just would not release her. She kept it tightly locked up in her heart though, as talk of things like that would surely scare the poor man away.
Arriving at the office door, she stopped a moment to take a deep steadying breath and she walked in, steps confident, hips swaying, a sultry smile on her lips.
When she walked in his pacing stopped and he looked at her with his mouth slightly ajar. What was wrong with him? Was he leading her on? Was he setting himself up for her to fall in love with some nice young official in the auror office? Or was he setting himself up for happiness which he had thought was completely unattainable? How long would it take for her to realize how terrible of a person - not even a person really - and leave him high and dry? But everything in his being told him he wanted to be with her, and that scared him more than anything in the world. Good thing they had done that big fart lesson or his might be very awkward for the class to have seen even if the one that was presented gave hints at what he was.
Was it really alright for him to be like this with her? It wasn’t a date but she looked amazing and he found himself staring unable to look away from her beauty. After a moment he walked to her and offered his hand. ”Are you ready for dinner, Dora?”

So the little black dress tactic worked. Well, it always did, but she had a niggling feeling that this might've been the one time it wouldn't. But, even he was suspect to its magic. Perfect. She was someone that when she knows what she wanted, she grabbed hold of it as tightly as possible and right now, it was this man. She wanted this man and the future this relationship can hold. She reached out and took his hand, stepping closer to him and she pressed a soft slow kiss to the corner of his mouth, which was different from the desperate, heady kisses she had shared with him the last few time. Those were to ensnare, now she was after keeping. Full of her love and promise. Her eyes flicked up to his, eyes alight with amusement. "You look very handsome for this not-date."
She pressed another kiss to his lips and stepped away from him, lacing her fingers with his. She loved the nickname, it caused shivers to run down her spine every time he said it and she had to force herself to keep her mind from drifting into much more intimate thoughts and places. Which she found herself going to now. She cleared her throat softly. "Lead the way, Mr Lupin."
Behave, she told herself. Not likely, her inner voice said back.
Hey, she agreed. It wasn’t a date. Not at all. There was no way this was a date and she was teasing him for being so nervous about it. That was totally it. There was absolutely no way it was that she was teasing him for insisting it wasn’t a date when it was totally a date because it was totally not a date. And that was how it needed to stay, and yet, she took his hand and kissed the corner of his mouth, his face turning cherry red.
He kept trying to fool himself she would be alright with his condition, knowing that she, and the rest of the wizarding world would never be okay with him. She had a place here with the wizards. She wasn’t a monster. She was an auror, meant to search out and contain dark beasts like him. If she knew, he would likely be brought in and sent to Azkaban or something for being a werewolf. He wasn’t sure, but he was afraid. He didn’t even have a place among the werewolves for living with humans too long. Even still, that kiss made his shiver under his skin.
“Yes well, I had a bit more time to… prepare unlike most mornings.” Really it was the fact he had been trying oh so hard to make himself not look quite so poor. In a way it was him trying to lie to her about his monetary status. If he weren’t a beast, even then he would feel bad because a man is supposed to provide for family, and he couldn’t do that, though that too stemmed from his beast side. “Of course, the same could be said for you – you look stunning today, Ms. Tonks. N-Not that you don’t every day – just that – you know – today is – well you look different today!” He stammered out that last part hoping not to offend her. Quickly instead of focusing on his failure, which he normally would do, and probably would do for the rest of the night, he guided her to her seat across the desk from his own seat. He pulled the seat out for her like a gentleman.
He couldn’t helped, but focus on that moment when he stammered out that excuse, when really it was true, he just said something really badly and wished he could go back in time and prevent himself from saying it. “It’s nothing much, really. I don’t – I don’t really have the funds to do things myself, so I had to enlist the help of the house elves. They seemed fairly happy to assist.” Once she was sat down he rushed over to his side of the desk and sat down himself quickly looking at the food instead of at her, as the more he looked at her, the farther gone he would be. He didn’t want to quit this job to run from this, he couldn’t quit this job, not while Sirius was still out there. He was just setting himself up for failure.

At this stammering she released his hand, placing her hands on his cheeks, her eyes locking with his. "Dora is fine, please. And thank you, I'm pleased you're pleased."
She gave him a sultry wink before dropping her hands, kissing him softly again before lowering herself with a surprising grace into the chair he had pulled out. She looked over the meal set out before them, smiling softly. "It looks fantastic regardless. You'll find I'm not at all concerned with anyone's financial status. If we're happy, that's enough for me."
A kind smile graced her lips, "and my happiness is with you."
Well now, she was obviously – actually he had no idea how to make an excuse for that. She was either naïve or lying to him, though given her age, likely the first. They barely knew each other, and while yes, they had shared many kisses so far, he wasn’t comfortable enough to tell her about his secret and have her leave him. And so, he felt like he was using her. Despite his blushing, he felt a rush of conflicting emotions. He needed to be honest with her, but he didn’t want her to ruin this… job for him. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her – well yes it was that he didn’t trust her. He didn’t trust anyone, not even his own sister to keep his secret given how free and loose she appeared to be with her own secret. It wasn’t that he thought she would do it on purpose, he thought she might let hints slip without realizing it.
He cleared his throat awkwardly and looked to the side and then back up to her, his eyes glittering and his face conflicted. “Nymphadora, what if I told you that I was using you for my own selfish interests and if you actually knew me you’d run as fast as you can away? I don’t…” He took in a deep breath and closed his eyes gently for a few moments. “I am not a noble man. I’m not brave. I’m not wealthy. I’m not young. I’m not handsome.” He listed off these things, things he told himself constantly. “When I was younger, I became very ill and in the process I gave myself these scars.” He opened his eyes and ran a hand over his face where the scars were visible. Yes, it was a hint to her as to what he was, but it was vague and if she found out… well, he would accept that. So long as he didn’t feel this heavy guilt weighing on himself right now.
“ I’m not a good man. And you deserve someone who is better than I am.”

Her eyes studied his face as he spoke. Sure, there were scars, but didn't everyone have some sort of scars? But there was something nagging at her. If she had to be honest, Rose had pulled her aside on several occasions, even after that first night. She couldn't help thing the kid was adorable and found it endearing that she was her brother's cheerleader. It was heartwarming that Rose liked her so much to keep pushing them together, Rose's stubbornness rivalled her own, to be honest. Tonks knew they would become fast friends and they did.
"My brother, he can be... very self-deprecating. He's... we're sick, we both have the same illness. He won't like it if I tell you straight up what it is, but I have a feeling you'll be able to figure it out, given your uh, occupation. But when he's like this; just listen. He's attempting to scare you away because he doesn't think he deserves happiness. But he does; we all do. Just be you Tonks and I know you'll shine through."
This must have been part of what she had been referring to. But there was also another piece of the puzzle she was given to solve within all this and she debated her next move.
"Then use me," she replied matter of factly. "I told you, I don't care for those things. If you want me by your side, then that's where I want to be, because that is what I want as well. This person, that sits in front of me now, that fell off the duelling stage, that accompanied me on my first patrol - this is who I fell in love with. Would you really tell me to leave your side if it made me sad? I don't think you would. These things you worry about, your age, money, your scars; none of this matters to me."
She said that word again. The L word. They barely knew each other and yet she felt she could say she loved him. Without knowing what was wrong. Without knowing the origins of his scars, or why he was the way he was – she knew about his friends, and that was a lot more than a lot of people tended to know. She didn’t know how he spent the last twelve years or so in essentially isolation, but especially the last few years since Rose was attacked.
It had gotten worse since then, and he had been jumping from job to job, jobs he was overqualified for – jobs that people who were half the wizard he was would still be overqualified for. Or how he had once attempted to join a werewolf colony during one of his pity parties but that lasted about a day as the werewolves treated him worse for living with humans than the humans did so long as they didn’t know what he was. He couldn’t hide the fact he lived among humans with the wolves, they knew. And half the people he encountered here likely would find out and he would have to move on. He couldn’t curse her to that life with him. The life of constantly moving and worrying where to go next or how to get food on the table – of course she wouldn’t have to worry given she had an actual job compared to him who bounced around.
“Nymphadora…” His eyes had turned one from sadness to bittersweet. She was so young and innocent. Was it really his right to teach her how naïve she was and how much she would hate him? He looked down at his lap again before he stood up, walking over to her seat and kneeling next to where she sat. “I’m afraid. I’m afraid of… you... finding someone else. Someone young and handsome. Someone who could provide for you when I could never be able to do so. A man who could fulfill everything you want.” He reached for her hand and kissed the back of it. “I’m afraid of being hurt. I’ve already lost so much. I don’t want to gain something only to lose it again when everything comes crashing down around my ears.”
He sighs looking to the side and summoning a piece of paper and a quill quickly writing something down and folding it up, placing the piece of paper in her hand. “Once all of this is over, with Sirius, I want you to look at what I’ve written here and then make the judgement of whether you want to stick with me or not. Don’t look at it before all of this – I need to keep this secret until he is caught at least. If there comes a time when you are sure you will not reveal this no matter what it is – it could say I’m working with Sirius or – or that I’m a murderer or something… worse – then you can read it then as well. But… you have to promise me, no matter what. Please.”

"Remus..."
There was a lot of things that went through her mind that she wanted to say to him. But Rose's words stuck in her mind more. She needed to be understanding and Nymphadora Tonks had a feeling that action, more than words, had a deeper effect on the man before her. However, there is something she couldn't go through tonight without saying.
"In my sixth year, in potions, we had a day where we got to brew amortentia; you know, the most powerful love potion in existence. And I'm sure, you know, that the potion smells differently to each person - well, when I smelt it, Remus, I tasted chocolate before I smelt it. Sure, any girl loves the taste and smell of chocolate, but this was an effect of an love potion. It might be superficial, but I took it to heart and it boggled me since."
She took a deep steadying breath, hoping what she was trying to convey got through. "That day, when you joined me on my patrol when I kissed you; I tasted chocolate and it reminded me of that day. I knew it had to mean something - maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, but it still doesn't change the way I feel about you, regardless. I... I want to be with you Remus and I won't walk away from you. I will not squander this chance you've given me."
When given the piece of paper she holds it, looking at it curiously and then locked her eyes with his, nodding. She then tucks the note away into her dress, in a place over her heart. "I promise. But I can tell you, whatever you've told me here."
She points at the hidden note, "won't change what's in here."
And at that she grabs his hand and holds it against her chest, where her heart is pounding, eyes still locked on his.
If one had noticed, each kiss they had shared was either on her hand or somewhere other than her lips, or initiated by her. However, today was the day to break that cycle, as he was overcome with emotion at her words, he leaned up, kissing her lips, though the kiss had been distorted with a guilt weighing on his mind. He was voluntarily tainting her and that was bad but he needed this. He needed to show her how he felt, to feel her lips against his. It was amazing - something he enjoyed more than chocolate but he had been unwilling to go for it himself before despite wanting it. Of course her cute little dress wasn’t helping him not want her lips against his like this.
He deepened the kiss, a hand going to her cheek and pulling her closer to him while the other hand, like the gentleman he was, rested on her hip. The kiss only lasted moments but it felt like it lasted forever. When he pulled back he looked into her eyes, his own sparkling like a pair of moons.
”Dora... tell me about yourself. I want to know everything about you. How someone as amazing and beautiful like you could exist.”

Now, if Tonks had to be completely and utterly honest with herself, she was a person that reacted to actions better than words as well. Words could be empty, pointless, lies. But when his lips pressed against hers, time stopped. Sure, every kiss she had initiated had been amazing but this, this was a drug and it was addictive. Her hands had come up to grip the front to his robes tightly and maybe even tremble slightly with the torrent of raw emotion that went through her in those moments his lips were on hers. She immediately melted into this kiss, a soft moan escaping her, the places he touched were on fire and she wanted more. When he pulled away and spoke she barely heard a word he said as she stared into those eyes which were like moons, shimmering with the stars of the night sky.
It wasn't enough; now it would never be enough; she would continue to want this for the rest of her life, each kiss being as toe-curling and mind-melting as that.
"I- I'll get to that, in a moment," she breathed, her heart was pounding in her chest and her eyes were locked on his lips. He had awoken a hunger in her, an unsatiable one that could only be fulfilled by one person and it was him. That hunger, that hunger and need ran father than just a kiss of course, but she would settle for his kiss for now. Hands on his robes, she pulled him back towards her, eyes filled a fiery heat of a mixture of love, want and need. Sure, they would have the rest of their lives for more kisses like that, but she wanted it now, again and again.
"Kiss me again, please."
The way 'please' dropped from her lips, it had a sultry, desperate connotation to it; her eyes held him expectantly.
It wasn’t necessarily the words that drove him over the edge, but the emotions behind it. Out of everyone in the entire castle, while at times he couldn’t tell what made up a person, he knew this was not one of those times. He could feel the passion, the want, the need radiating from her with each tiny reaction. She hadn’t read the note yet, which once she did, he was sure she would run away from him, but for now? This is what he wanted more than anything. The love, the care of this woman in front of him. He wasn’t ready… for anything more than the kisses really, but he knew she understood that and hoped this would suffice – if not, he would put aside his own discomfort for her. At this point, other than betray Rose or Dumbledore? He’d likely do anything she wanted him to do.
Nodding at her please, he quickly pressed another kiss against her lips funneling everything he could into it. The sadness and grief he had felt constantly because of the past. The happiness and love he felt now because she was here with him. The hand from her waist moved to the back of her head holding her against him, holding her as if she were about to fall, to escape from his grasp and he was desperately trying to hold onto her. He broke the kiss to quickly take in a breath before he kissed her again, his lips moving against hers and then deepening the kiss once more.
He was sure he was a terrible kisser, but if this was what she wanted, he would oblige at least for now. He couldn’t leave and run from her, he had a job he had to do – and he hadn’t been outed publicly as a werewolf… at least not yet. He had kept it a secret for 28 years now from the ears of the public, but there was a feeling deep in his mind it wouldn’t last.

Her knuckles were turning white from her grip on the front of his robes, she released them to wrap her arms around his neck to put herself closer to him., smiling into this kiss. She had to honestly blink back tears because of the amount of emotion he was putting into the simple action. Despite what he thought, he wasn't a terrible kisser at all. In fact, he was the best she'd ever encountered, of course, paired with the emotions it all kinda made everything so much more sweeter. She pulled back finally for air, breathing heavily and eyes wild with untamed emotion.
"Now that we've had dessert, how about dinner?"
She giggled softly, kissing the scar under his eye.
His breathing was heavy, his mind not comprehending her words immediately, having been focused on the raw emotion and taste of her lips. He nodded quickly, swallowing hard. “O-One condition… more dessert later.” My god Remus, how needy could you get? This was your first real girlfriend – wait, she wasn’t his girlfriend they were – oh god, what were they? Was this a date? No nononono that couldn’t be right. The only time he had been on a date was when Sirius convinced him to go on a date with Dorcus Meadowes and while she was lovely, he didn’t do it ever again as he didn’t really feel any connection to her. And yet here he was asking if he could kiss her again after they finished eating. Man, he was in trouble.
Running a hand down the scar she had kissed, he smiled pecking her lips and quickly standing up. “I hope you aren’t a vegetarian…” He looks to the food that had sat there while they snogged and had an emotional conversation, sad and uneaten (good thing he had thought of a preservation spell so the food had been delivered and kept fresh and hot while he waited for her).
