"Was that a slight at my intelligence, Nix?" she asked, a brow raising up.
"I'll have you know I was put into Ravenclaw for a reason."
She might sound defensive, but she really wasn't. But she could play the game of insults if needed, she was ready to go. She crossed her arms against her chest, watching as the girl shifted slightly.
It seemed the other girl had taken nix's words the wrong way, or maybe the red head was just at getting her words out in the right way. Most likely the latter, it was normally the latter. She had a great habit of offending people when she didnt mean to or saying something wrong, it was like a skill. Then again, if someone asked her if they looked good in something that made them look like an over grown Niffler in drag, was she not meant to say that? The girl raised an eyebrow and then commented on her house, something nix decided to use. "Yea me too, apparently my recklessness reaches to my wording too" she said with a little roll of her eyes, at herself of course though if the other girl would know that or not was open ended.
Though, the next comment she couldnt help. "Is the work not hard for you, Ravenclaw and all" she found herself asking, her normal tactless manor taking over before she could really think to stop it. Her question wasnt nasty, she merely wondered how going from one way of learning and type of lesson to a whole new one in a totally different country must be hard. However, as she listened to herself in her head, it did sound a little harsh.

Rose snorted, shaking her head. "Yeah, well, that's apparent," Rose shot back, a smirk on her lips.
"And no, the work isn't hard. Actually, it much easier. My French was terrible, as was my Spanish. It was a pain to keep up with everything there."
She wouldn't lie, it was much easier here since the primary language was English. "Try learning French from scratch when you're eleven. It's no walk in the park."
Nix heard the laugh from the other girl, her comment and noted the smirk and it seemed the gryffindors comment on her own house and her personality had done what she needed it to. As much as she was proud of her house and she was happy to be within it, Gryffindor like all the houses had its different jokes tied to those within it and being impulsive and reckless is just kinda in the job description.Well it was to nix, and she had enough people in this school who hated her, best not to get another so amusement was useful. However as rose went on nix frowned, a little confused again and once more a question escaped her before she could get a hold on it. "So, you weren't born over there then? That or you took ages to get to learning french" she said, chuckling softly at her own joke before she tilted her head.
"And trust me, learning a language is hard but learning magic is a thing and there's a whole other world you never knew about, that was just..." she started before she paused, wincing as her mind settled. She always thought about that day, when she learnt magic was a thing in the world and it explained so much but left her with a huge question. What would her life have been like if her parents hadn't been killed and she had always known about magic, she always felt like some of the pure and half bloods around the school forgot about that feeling.

"Nope, I was not born there. I wasn't even supposed to go there, but..."
Rose sighed, trailing off. "It was a little last minute, I attended muggle primary school before I went as well, so unfortunately there wasn't enough time for a tutor. I picked most of it up, rather quickly, thanks to a friend."
She smiled fondly. "It was still exciting, to be going there. Beauxbatons. I prefer here though, much more relaxed."
Rose explained she wasnt born in france and nix crossed her arms over her chest, kicking up one foot so she leaned to one side and hit the wall beside her with a soft thump. She came to lean against it, resting one foot on its side as she took in the other girls words, nodding now and then. "Muggle primary school, feels weird to hear it called that but i guess thats the right wording. I did the same, its so different, going from a muggle school to a magical one" she said, almost wistfully, before she caught on the girls other words. "Do you miss your freinds from over there then? Still visit in the summer and those types of things? Or Just happy to be...home.." she said, her final words a little assuming and mostly a guess but she expected she was right. Well, in Nix's mind she was normally always right or she was right she just hadn't known it and needed correcting. Or that was the mindset she told herself she had, and she didnt need to look any deeper to see her real sentiments right now.

"Different in its own way, but also very much the same," Rose concluded, nodding. "My home is here; actually. And one friend of mine actually just recently transferred too. So it's enough. I may visit one day in the future, there are a few people I wouldn't mind seeing again."
She sighed softly, "I was beyond happy to hear I would be coming here since it was where I was supposed to come in the first place. After hearing so many stories from my brother, and how much friends he and his friends had; it was kind of a let down to be told that I would be going somewhere else for awhile."
Nix nodded again at the word difficult, though rose had a point it was its own kind of hard. However the girl then mentioned that england was home, so nix had guessed right. A slightly larger grin grew on her face before the girl went on and nix tilted her head again, "So there's an actual french student walkin' about here as of this year that we dont know yet? Have they gone in at your level too?" she said, her mind suddenly racing to think of all the new faces she could think of that weren't smaller than her elbow and thus at least old enough to be second year or above. None came to mind, so she focused on the conversation again. "Would you like to go back and stay? Or is england really home? I often used to want to go back to where i went to school first, never that home or house again, but i missed the other kids. Only when i did go back, it was very different to what i remembered" she said, her little ramble of a story partly a warning and partly here just rambling a little in the moment.
Though as Rose went on about hogwarts, nix grinned deeper. "You got a big brother roaming the halls then? Or roamed past tense? Apparently i got a whole bunch of family around, i just dont know half of 'em and the half that do know me, hate me. Must be nice to get stories handed down about school" she said, her voice turing a little wishful for all of a second before she snuffed it out. No, she didn't have anyone for family, but she had her freinds in hogsmead and she needed to focus on that. No, she hadn't had the life most kids took for granted here, but she had her own and wishing for another one was not going to get her anywhere and she knew it. She had wasted a good year of her life like that, she was not going to let it go back. Rose was an example of that too and she was fine, missing out of the school she wanted but making the best of a new one and making the best of having to start over. Nix was not about to be out done by someone who was, by all official terms, three years younger than she was. She allowed herself to cheer up a bit at this thought and then looked back to her company, a finding herself rather enjoying the discussion with the other girl. Well, picking over her mind and her past was interesting, there werent a lot of other students who had something like that they came from and she was agreeable enough. The red head was sure if she was exactly the type of person she would seek out to hang out with but the odd chat or comment here or there couldnt hurt, lord knew nix needed all the help or freinds, or close enough, she could get.

She laughed again.
"Yep, there's an actual french student wandering these halls. I hear he's rather good looking too. Or maybe it's just because he's from a different country. Exotic, and all that."
Rose repressed the urge to roll her eyes. "Honestly, here is home. Here is good. I really didn't much like it there, regardless of learning how to do magic and all on my own. I don't honestly plan on going back if I can help it..."
She grinned, "yeah. He's here. Somewhere. But as far as any other family, I am unaware of myself. But you know what they say, the pureblooded families are always somehow related."
Seems nix's comments on the new kid amused her company, though as rose went on nix rolled her eyes. "Wow, a looker, a french accent and a new kid all rolled in to one. Man, we are in trouble then!" she said with a wide smirk, she knew there would be more than enough girls in just about any year on the tail of someone like that the second him being around was made well known. Though she noticed the other girl had either missed her asking about where said new student would be in terms of the years,or maybe she didnt know or just didnt wanna answer. It was true nix wasn't close enough to all her friends to know their timetables, and rose had moved from another country so she could be forgiven for not knowing a freinds year.
The red head nodded as rose spoke, or rather explained she didnt want to go back to france, and nix found herself smiling softly. "Seems like you;ve ended up where you belong then, time to settle in and do well and generally kick butt at being english with a little french accent" she said, her voice oddly encouraging for a moment before the topic changed to rose's brother. Nix rolled her eyes as she went on and kicked her foot out, making a knocking noise on the ground and looking down to it. "You are telling me, apparently half the students in this school im related to some how. I came here thinking i was some muggleborn nobody, turns out im the last of 2 lines of pureblood families and ive got relations everywhere, talk about world on its head" she said before she looked back to the other girl, again noting she was picking and choosing which answers she gave. WAs this because she was protective of said brother, she had taken him to be older from the way she had spoken before but maybe he was some little first year running about that rose just wanted to keep safe. And considering how they had met, nix wasnt exactly "safe", she figured that.

Rose snickered, "he is indeed trouble. I'm not going to lie. He's lucky though, he actually got sorted into his proper year."
Which, to be honest, made her think the reason why she was sorted so oddly, was a different reason entirely from what she's kept being told but nonetheless.
Rose laughed, "I wished I'd kept the French accent. I said my French was horrible and being back here had vanished any of whatever accent I may have picked up!"
She was playing coy with the answer about her brother, only because said brother didn't want it to be known that she was related to him. She sighed softly.
"Yeah, I'm probably related to a bunch here too; not really sure, never really asked about my family tree...."
As the other girl laughed, she replied and gave nix the answer she was due. The red head thought on the matter and di a little mental maths for a moment before her smirk grew, so she had a new, french, supposedly hansome kid in her year? Now that was good to know ahead of time, she was sure she could make that work for her own amusement down the line. Though it did make nix wonder why the other girl was in the 3rd year then, if he had been in a similar year to her and yet gone in higher, but there was no way the girl knew another answer to that question so nix just didnt ask it. Instead she laughed gently at the girls comment on accents, noting she didnt have the normal edge to her voice someone would do if they had moved from somewhere else but then again nix heard accents from all sorts of people that they couldnt hear.
Though when the girl latched on to nix's words about families, she all but forgot to press for who this mystery brother was. "Really? You pureblooded too? Or got a parent who is? I mean it would be cool to find one person im related to who knows it and doesnt hate me, i guess i'll have to try actually looking in to the family tree some time but i bet that will become a right head ache" she said, smirking again and letting her amused face try to drop back to normal. She would like to know she had some family out there who might care about her, though she highly doubted there was anyone like that, but she could hope. Though this was coming from the girl who thought no one ever liked her and simply used her as a mean to an end, but she was cynical under her lone wolf act.

"I'm sure there's someone out there who's looking for you too, Nix," Rose said, with a grin.
Nice, Hunter, get all wishy-washy. You are your brother's sister, aren't you? "I'm pretty sure I'm pureblooded, my parents don't talk much about their family line. There may or may not be a reason for that; I'm honestly not sure. Gotta love mysterious parents."
She gave a short laugh. "Said transfer student won't blend in as much as I do. So he'll be easy to find."
She knew the other girl was joking as she spoke but nix felt her next set of well thought out and snarky words catch in her throat as she went to speak, it was a joke and so she couldn't show a reaction to it. Forcing down the air trapped in her mouth she nodded her head, focusing on the girls second choice of conversation instead. "I'd agree, well i can attempt to, i guess mind had their own secrets and so forth but i shall never know them. Which sucks, but hey, what can you do" she said, wondering if she would even remember if she had asked her parents about their family and family tree. She expected not, she was very young when they left.
She shivered at this and then noted the other girls words, "I'll have to keep an eye out, should be amusing to see reactions of girls this age with someone like that. I mean come on, hormones totally in the air and fresh meat, thats just gonna be fun" she said, finally cracking a smile for the moment. The idea of other girls in her house or even just in her year fawning over some new guy who was all the typically good things amused her, partly because girls fawning over anyone made her laugh but also because the idea that just because he was new he was better than all the boys they had known for 5 years.

Rose chucked, shrugging. "A little mystery in life makes it interesting, I think. So when you do happen to come across someone that is looking for you, it'll be pretty exciting."
Fortunately for Rose, her work had been done for her, ala Dumbledore inviting her brother to teach here this year. So no adventures into werewolf covens for her. Probably a good thing. How often was there a female werewolf anyways? That... was not a good thought train. She suppressed a shudder.
"Let me know what you think when you see him, he's very... exuberant."
She hadn't really been paying attention to the other houses when he arrived, Rose had a tad of tunnel vision since.
