we are a low word count, any level of experience rp set in harry's 3rd year at hogwarts. students and adults alike are welcome! given we are set fairly early in the series, everything that happens from this point on will be up to us! perhaps sirius black will be cleared and peter arrested, or perhaps something darker lurks in the shadows...
A long time ago nix had been smaller, shorter and leaner. She was now tall, even for her age and while she could not put on weight even though she tried, she had muscle over her shoulders and arms from years of qudditch. This was making pressing herself in to the small hole she used to use to hide from people very hard right now, giving up she quickly leaned out of it and started running down the corridor. She could hear shouts coming from the other end of it and was not about to pause and check, though she could make out a suit of armour ahead of her so headed for that. She could hear her name now, the voice closer and footsteps so she all but threw herself behind the armour and pressed herself in to the wall behind it with a little gasp of breath.
A moment passed with nothing but footsteps, no more name calling before a male voice suddenly sounded very close by. "NIGHT! You half breed Menace! I know this was you AGAIN" came a furious voice that nix had to pulled her hand up to her mouth to ignore, trying so hard not to laugh. And then he came in to view, his normally neat blonde hair now dripping with a dark green type of slime. Each drop seemed to flow over his head, come on to his green edged robes and run down them but clump at the bottom, something nix actually did chuckle at as the other 6th year stormed off down the corridor. "Don't pick on the first years then Jackson, you'll learn one day" she said, her voice meichoivs as she pushed back on the wall behind her and stepped out from the cavity with a smug grin growing on her face.

She was still avoiding her brother at all costs, but she knew there would be some sort of overlap eventually. Thankfully that hadn't happened yet. She wasn't ready to face him, nor did she have the plan to do so. But, the full moon was nearing and she had to get to Snape eventually. She wasn't headed there now, obviously. Down from Ravenclaw tower, she ventured, hopping steps two at a time, at least until the staircases decided they wanted to move. It was at this point she would have to take the long way around on the fifth floor because once staircases moved, they didn't move again for a while. Again, sigh.
It was here she encountered and was nearly bowled over by, some sixth-year Slytherin. He'd passed her without a glance but when she looked down the hall she saw whoever caused the kid to rush past (and had that been some sort of green goo??). She noticed it was a sixth year Gryffindor, Nix by the name if she remembered right. She had heard about her from the twins, as they seemed to cause quite a ruckus when everything they did ended up happening at the same time. At least from the smug grin on the girls face, she could only assume what had gone on.
"Nix Night, I would say it's a surprise to see you skulking about the corridors, but it really isn't."
Nix watched as green robes flicked around a corner and she smirked to herself as she lost sight of the other student, leaning against the wall behind her after a moment. She held in one hand a small vial that was now empty and clear but had been filled with a bright yellow liquid a little before, the one mistake was was happy to make she often liked to joke. She moved to drop it in to her pocket when she heard a voice and she started, dropping the bottle quickly out of sight before turning. Her eyes settled on another student, though who she had no idea as names were so not a thing she learned anymore. Though this person knew her, or she knew of her at least and those were close enough. "Whats wrong with a strole about the castle between classes? Hardly sulking..." she replied, trying her hardest not to look so smug and totally forgetting to even ask the other girls name in the process.
However, she was bad at that. It was because she was smug, she was proud of what she had done. She and Jackson never got on and they never would, he was a bully and a nasty kid through and through and se had no time for him. However when he dragged other people in to it, picking on other kids or winding up other elder students, she couldn't let it lie. Alright, one of these days he was going to catch her and one of these days she was going to slip up, but she couldnt bare the idea of letting him get one up on her or get away with being a bully to anyone. So the smug look on her face stayed, most likely giving her away.

"Mmmhmm, I believe that," she rose a brow at Nix. "Because that Slytherin high-tailing it from this corridor doesn't bode well for you."
Rose sighed, shaking her head. Honestly, she had no idea what was going on, but she didn't really enjoy seeing other people being picked on, regardless of their house. Unless it was herself doing the picking on, of course. Rose would hope, however, that Nix was just picking on the other kid because he was being mean to another student. She sighed, knowing that these were the sort of things that Willow talked about needing to end.
"What are you up to, anyway? I hope it's not of anything of no good."
She planted a stare at the girl, crossing her arms.
The other girl spoke, her voice disbelieving and nix didnt blame her in the slightest for that. The raised eyebrow was a nice touch, though when she commented on the other student nix was sure she could see something else in the other girl. She shook her head, crossed her arms and seemed over all rather unimpressed and nix felt herself growing defensive. The little sigh and comment was enough and the gryffindor inside the red head suddenly made all sorts of sounds to the effect of explain yourself, nix found herself talking before she could stop it. "Well ya see Jackson over there was this weird idea that because he is "pureblood" he doesnt need to treat other kids like, well, kids. There's a few first years, sweet kids but totally spineless, he rather likes to tell how useless, worthless and generally scummy they are because they got muggle parents. Weirdly, when i heard this, my project for potions slipped out of my hands and on to his head" she said, an act of innocence growing over her face. She'd been there, she'd been the "muggleborn" everyone picked on and she was not about to let anyone else ever deal with that because they were scared to stand up for themself. Her bright green eyes rose to meet the stare from the other girl, defiantly confident.

"Noble reason, aside," Rose began, after hearing the girls story. Rose was it had been glad because the Slytherin had been picking on first years. But still. "You probably shouldn't hang out with the Twins and learn their bad habits from them."
An eyebrow rose, this time in-joke as she approached the girl and held out a hand. "Rose Lu-Hunter. Nice to formally meet you, Nix."
Rose hoped if she got on the girl's good side, she would keep her tricks far away from her. She didn't need her hair turned green too... again.
The other girl spoke and nix couldnt help but roll her eyes, like she was going to let someone tell her she was supposed to just let bullies get their way. She fought back the sigh that rose in her throat though, catching it with a laugh instead as her company went on. "Do you mean that duo, the weasley boys? I'd hardly say i've learnt from them, got a year over them in fact, i guess we swap ideas is the best way to put it" she joked with a smirk. She knew of the boys, and she expected they knew of her as they had a similar taste for fun as others expense. Though they had a habit of fun for the sake of fun too, nix was more about getting even than just pranks for the sake of it. She admired them for that though, sometime everyone needed a laugh.
The girl came over now, offering a hand out and nix had to shake her head to clear it and focus. She took a moment, reaching out to take the girls hand after a few seconds of thought. "I'll warn you now, im good at faces but names do not come easy to me. And formally its Nix Night, people in this place got a weird habit for surnames but its nice to hear someone use a first" she said as she shook the offered hand, smirking again. She was aware now that the girl before her was exactly far off her in height or build, something nix took to mean she had to be around her age. Though that was odd as she was sure they didn't share any classes together which they shouldn't if they were in the same year, she thought on the question but chose not to say it. Well, not yet.

"Yeah, them, exactly," she said, shaking her head. "Well, regardless if you're in cahoots with them, or pulling stuff separate, just keep your wits about you."
Rose gave the girls hand a solid shake before releasing it. "I'm not sure what it is about people 'round here using last names. But I prefer my first, myself. Whenever someone uses my last it usually means I'm in trouble."
Rose laughs. "I guess the only difference is that I'm a third year, instead of sixth."
The girl shook her head as she spoke once more, nix wondering why her getting in to trouble or at least plans for trouble with others was a bad thing? She was making freinds, sort of, wasnt that a good thing? She could almost hear tain telling her she was hearing what she wanted to, something that amused her as she thought it to herself. Rose dropped her hand and nix moved her on, settling it in the pocket of her robes as she looked the other girl over. "I think its stems from some of the families, it sounds cooler to these twits who think family names matter to be know by the their second. Makes me feel weird, so I'm on board with the first name stuff" she said, agreeing with the other girl for a moment before she went on and nix frowned.
Wait, if that was true she was very tall for someone who was only thirteen. No, she didnt get it, she was asking. "3rd year not 6th? As in, you should be in 6th but aint for some reason?" nix asked, tilting her head a little as she spoke and the other girl shrugged. She knew it was weird, she knew other kids looked at her odd when she did it but it was a behavior she just couldnt break whenever she was confused. That didnt make sense, if she was old enough to be in the 6th year she would be surely. What reason would there be to be held back for 3 years, and at hogwarts?
Post by Rose Ameile Hunter on Jul 18, 2018 6:10:36 GMT
"It just seems so informal," Rose shrugged.
Rose cocked an eyebrow at Nix for her reaction at her being a third year. "I mean... yes. My age dictates I should be a sixth year, but, due to circumstances, and the status of my transfer - I'm also a transfer from Beauxbatons after I moved back to London. I was placed in year three."
Nix nodded as the girl comment on name, agreeing with her there. She was a kid and so the other kids she spoke to were like her, calling them by a surname was like she was talking to them or treating them like a teacher which was just odd when you thought about it. Though then her company explained her age and year statues and nix drowned, trying to think through thr girls words. "So you went to school at Beauxbatons for like 3 years and then came here and got put in to year three? Or just, you came here and got put in to year three because Beauxbatons doesn't teach like us here?" she asked, trying to work out quite how this settled.
It didn't make sense to her to be as old as she was and yet learning stuff so much younger, but then again maybe Beauxbatons didn't teach like hogwarts did and so that would explain a lot. She knew there were different magical schools and all of them did education a bit differently so that had to be it, this girl couldnt have failed that much or that badly, surely. She wondered if she should ask about why she came back to london and if she was born here or there, though then noted she didnt know the girl well enough for any thing like that.

"From my understanding, the curriculums are just so vastly different..." Rose said, sighing. This hadn't been the first time she'd explained this, it was pretty much the same thing two years ago when she first arrived. She got teased for it a lot too, regardless.
Though, the explanation she gave, was mostly a lie, as she didn't want to explain the real reason she was stuffed into Potter's year.
"My classes are a mess too," she went on, to further her point. "One class might be with the sixth years, others are with the third years or anything within the gap."
Nix listened as the other girl spoke and nodded, she knew for a fact there was some school in some country in europe that didn't even have a defence against the dark arts class, just a dark arts class. So the idea of the school in france being different o hogwarts made sense, "So you been here 2 years and had to start over or come in at year 3?" she asked, trying to nail down exactly how this worked when the girl went on. So she did have some higher classes, well if things like herbology were covered in the other school she figured they had to be the same everywhere so moving around would make sense. "Bet its chaos for you with times for food or friends or stuff. Man, i bet you meet all kinda of kids in different classes and different years" she said, thinking of how she herself had classes with each house and so knew a lot of her own year but the idea of different classes with different house in 2 different years seemed like madness. Must be so much to manage, and considering the girl had moved too, seemed like a lot to pile on her. Maybe that was why She didnt seemed to have a sense of humor about Jackson, she was just tried from all her managing.

"Basically," she said, snickering at it herself. "My timetable is worse than Granger's right now - and she's got a full schedule."
And if she knew anything about anything, it's that Granger was getting a little magical help about it as well. Luckily, while her schedule was a mess, she wasn't trying to fit in every elective under the sun either.
Rose commented softly and seemed to laugh at herself for a moment before making a quip at a name nix only knew as a name, of course she had heard of the stories of the trio of gryffindors and some of the others they were close to causing all sorts of fun in their first two years in school but she tried to stay out of it. At the end of the day they were just kids and should be given the chance to be kids, not some celebrity that wandered the school. That being said, she had heard that Granger was not only very gifts but also a muggleborn, so nix had decided she liked the girl without even meeting her. "Well, i hope they aint expectin' you to get grades like she supposedly does on top of times like her" the red head joked, smirking for a moment before she leaned back on one foot a little. Her robes swung around her and then settled against her legs, the bottle she had used before now resting against her side and reminding her she really needed to vanish it or get rid of it at some point.
