Remus had wrapped his presents and had double checked them this morning before a quick flick of his wand storing them in a bag. It was bigger on the inside, so he would look like Santa pulling gifts out of the small bag. He was nervous but also excited this morning – it was Christmas and he was going to be spending it with those he cared about – Sirius was even going to be there.
Trotting down the stairs of Hogwarts, the bag in his robes hidden away, he wore a smile on his face. He was incredibly excited, even shaking slightly. Of course, he could feel the moon only a few days away, but that tiredness and depression that always came about a week before the moon seemed to be outshone by how happy he was at this moment.
It was a white Christmas outside, and he bundled himself up in his worn out old jacket, making his away across the grounds and towards Hogsmeade. Despite the cold biting at his face making it red, his face felt almost warm to him right now. Maybe it was his heart beating out of his chest keeping him warm from the outside elements.
He knocked on the door to Tonks’s cottage, almost jumping out of his skin. As soon as the door opened, acting without thought, his eyes closed and pulled whoever opened the door into a passionate kiss. He expected Tonks obviously. However, the lips that met his didn’t feel… like he was used to when he kissed Tonks. Was her lips chapped?
He quickly opened his eyes and saw Sirius standing there and pulled away as fast as he can. “Wh-What are you doing opening the door?!?” He quickly rushed into the house and closed the door behind him. His face was a tomato, the embarrassment getting to him. He ran a hand over his lips, his eyes wide.

She had been headed in that direction when she crossed paths with her brother. She didn't bother to catch up with him, knowing they were headed to the same place, plus she was carrying about a dozen things anyways. Christmas had always been one of her favourite times of the year, and even though she had to choose between this and her parents... well her parents understood. It was her first Christmas in years that Remus would be at. She was so elated it didn't even cross her mind she was a witch, had magic, and could shrink everything down and fit them into her pocket.
Because you know, that would be smart, right?
Regardless of being weighted down by the gifts - and she might have gone overboard, but she was just so damn excited - that she nearly missed the Christmas spectacle before her.
Remus had knocked at Tonk's cottage door, and expecting her to be there, had kissed Sirius who had opened the door.
He then disappeared into the house and she had a moment to rearrange her face before heading in as well.
Face arrangement didn't last long.
"Oi dog lips, stop standing in the entryway!" she barked and then promptly erupted into peals of laughter.
* * *
Tonks was finishing up the last of her gift wrapping when there was a knock at the door. "Sirius, would you get that?"
"And why do you think I would do that?" Sirius said from his spot on the couch.
She promptly threw the spello-tape at his head which he barely dodged. "Because you're freeloading off me in my house, drinking my coffee and you have nothing better to do."
Sirius smirked, riding from the couch. "Ouch, touche sweetheart."
He went to the door, opened it and was promptly assaulted by Remus' lips. His face held a shit eating grin when Remus pulled away. "Tonks, Darling, looks like you have competition."
Tonks shot him a glare, "well- I'll just leave you two at that, then."
Rose's peals of laughter causing her to snicker as well.
Remus quickly turned to see Rose open the door after him and his face was even redder than before. He quickly moved in towards Tonks and placed a quick kiss on her cheek, trying not to die from embarrassment.
“No competition – no – nothing, okay? This never happened.” He pointed a finger at Sirius and then went around the room. Unfortunately for Remus, Elias had been in the kitchen because the controller is too lazy to have him walk in as well, and currently stood in a corner sipping some tea watching the scene unfold with a grin on his face.

Rose unloaded her items onto the floor near the couch, really Rose, seriously? Magic? Hello? And dances over to Tonks and her brother where she swept them both up in a hug and placed a kiss on each of their cheeks. "Happy Christmas!"
She then rounded on Remus taking his chin in her hand. "And no more kissing stray dogs!"
She pulled away giggling, joining Elias in his corner where she wrapped her arms around him from behind and kissed his cheek. "Happy Christmas," she whispered in his ear, giving him a wink.
* * *
Tonks hummed in such a way as if she didn't believe a word, "Unfortunately, I will never be able to unsee this. But alas, ear wax."
She smiled at Remus' kiss to her cheek, but instead of returning it, she pressed a kiss to his lips. She had received his letter and accepted the apology. Also even relenting that space may be good for them, as she understood the whole thing was overwhelming for him. But she did notice another thing, she leaned in next to his ear, "I don't mean to pry, but I couldn't help but notice. Did you and your sister finally come to see each other eye to eye?"
Gratefully accepting the kiss, he allowed himself to get lost for a moment, so he could forget the sensation of kissing Sirius. Ah, he missed her kisses like this, and wrapped an arm around her waist to hold her close to him as Rose approached.
“Happy Christmas to you too,” He accepted the hug and kiss with a smile, though his face was still warm and very red from the embarrassment. “One condition, Rose. No more collecting stray dogs and having Dora take care of them.” He gives her a wink and then looks to Tonks.
Returning the lean, he whispered back to her. “In a way. We had a nice long chat about things.”
---
Elias grinned feeling her arms coming up from behind. He took a sip of his tea as she kissed his cheek and turned his head towards her. “Happy Christmas, Rose.” Her arms felt so warm around him, he felt safe with her around. It was honestly something he hadn’t really needed before, but with everything that had happened in the past year for him, he really was enjoying this embrace. “Enjoying yourself, yes? Brother seems to be in a good mood.”

"I can't promise anything!" Rose giggled and returned the wink.
She smiled at Elias, nodding before resting her chin on his shoulder. "I just got here, seen Remus kiss Sirius, and I've got you in my arms, it's turning out pretty good so far!"
She nipped at his ear. "He is in a good mood because he's learning that he can live, and not just... survive. I hope it keeps. I wouldn't want to have you bruise up your hands. There are better uses for those."
She gave him a wink, giggling.
* * *
Sirius rubbed his mouth with a hand, chuckling. "Well, that two out of three, Moony."
He went to settle himself back down with his coffee in the chair near the fire. Much to Rose's delight he was fully dressed, looks like Tonks had gone out to get him some things. He also didn't look as gaunt as before, which was good.
* * *
"Looks like you've been feeding the dog," Rose commented with a grin at Sirius, who shot a glare at her.
Tonks snickered, "yes, well, not without difficulty. You'd think he wouldn't be picky, after having to eat scraps for the last twelve years."
Sirius pouted and Tonks rolled her eyes, turning to wrap her arms around Remus. "I'm glad. She looked so sad before, but now she's all smiles. She's very quirky and had a mischevious streak. I wonder where it comes from?"
She gave Remus a wink, looking at Elias and Rose. "Those two look cosy, huh?"
Elias chuckled enjoying her playfulness, looking back at her after she nipped at his ear. He gave her a quick peck on her cheek. “Your first few minutes were better than mine. I arrived, and it was just me, Tonks, and Sirius. A little awkward, yes?” He laughs before taking another sip of his tea.
“I’m glad he’s happy. When he’s happy, you’re happy.” He gives her a small smile and then holds up his hands in front of himself regarding them for a few moments. “My hands are beautiful, non? I do hope you’re right. One of my best features is my beautiful hands.” He wiggles his fingers and then places them on his chest before wrapping them around him. “Oh to be embraced by the most beautiful man in the world, it’s a dream come true.” He laughs, obviously teasing as he releases himself.
---
“Sh-Shut it Sirius!” Remus was looking anywhere but at him. “Both were accidents.” He wasn’t going to mention how he enjoyed both of them. “And I’m definitely not kissing Peter.” He made a grossed out look when even mentioning kissing Peter. Then again, he’d make that face before he kissed Sirius just now too – and even after because oh god, what would everyone think if it kind of half-enjoyed kissing his best friend?
“Oh I wonder. Can’t be Dad, he’s got a stick up his ass.” Remus chuckled softly looking at Rose and Elias, with a little bit of an overprotective brother glint in his eyes. “They do look cozy. A little too cozy.”

Rose giggled, "well, you could've played fetch with the dog. I'm sure he wouldn't mind."
She said this loud enough for Sirius to hear and hear he did, as he shot a glare at her. Rose gave a roll of her eyes, "yes, that's exactly what they're for, nothing else, not at all."
She released him, having caught eyes with Remus and, pulling Elias along, went to sit on the couch opposite of Sirius. "Where'd you get these clothes you've got for Sirius, Tonks? They look great."
* * *
Sirius chuckled, "sure, sure, accidents."
Sirius settled though, catching a very dark look from Rose. Looks like Remus wasn't the only one protective of their sibling. Sirius smirked, however, "Moony, your sister's giving me such an awful look!"
"That's because I don't trust you," she snapped, half a grin on her face. "So watch your mouth, buster. I may only be sixteen, but I can take you on."
* * *
Tonks chuckled, kissing Remus on the cheek again. It seemed as though Rose had caught Remus' eye though, because she removed herself from Elias rather smoothly, but only to pull the boy over to the couch. She snickered. "Well, given what you've told me, Elias seems to be ... better suited for Rose?"
“But what if he gave me fleas?” Elias grinned looking at Sirius with a cocky sort of look, “My beautiful blood would be irresistible for those pests who have only have had that of and old man.” Oh jeez Elias. Calling Sirius old. You’re 16. He’s only 33. Okay, yes, for more than half of his life you didn’t exist that didn’t make him old. That’s like calling Remus old.
…
Elias totally thought Remus was old.
“Was it a past boyfriend perhaps, Tonks?” He is looking Sirius up and down. He had to admit, for an old guy, he was attractive.
---
“Oh yes, because I was supposed to expect James to be right there when I fell. Or for you, a wanted criminal to answer the door to what could possibly be an auror paying a visit to their dear friend.” He stared at Sirius. Of course, he much preferred Tonks’s kisses, they were passionate and made him feel like he was flying. However, the ones with those two friends of his… well they were different and accidental.
“Be careful of her, Padfoot. She’s serious. Not only is she skilled with her wand, but also a quill. You should see the shade she threw on Sev.” Remus chuckles looking at Rose with an amused look. Of course, Sirius hated Snape – and well, Remus didn’t blame him really. Severus was everything Sirius hated in a person.
“Better suited maybe, but she’s still only 16,” The glint turned into a sparkle as he watched, his eyes following their movement. “They’re both still kids. I don’t want them running around trying to grow up too fast because they like each other.”

She broke into a snorting giggle, "Elias, you're not gonna get fleas just because his animagus happens to be dog. He cleaned up pretty nice, regardless."
Rose shook her head with a roll of her eyes and sighed. Honestly, this kid. She followed Elias' eyes and elbowed him, hard, in the rib. She then grinned at Remus, "ah, you did get to that essay, eh?"
She grinned confidently, "And I can take on you, Snape, and Peter! Just you watch!"
* * *
Tonks flushed a light shade of red. "Past boyfriend?" Well, given that her last boyfriend... well, anyway. "No, I went out and bought those. My last relationship ended before I had even left Hogwarts."
Oh god, that was showing how young she was again. Honestly, that had only been three years ago. She looked at Remus out of the corner of her eye, hoping to get away from the subject quick. "Them, or Rose? Are you sure you're her brother or her dad?"
"Oh, he's my brother alright," came Rose's response. "Dad wouldn't nearly kill me by laughter just to win a game of red light green light."
Rose smiled at the memory.
* * *
"Oh? She's not fond of dear Snivellus either?" Sirius rose a brow, looking to Rose.
Rose huffed, "who would be, with that bullshit essay he set on us. I know he's just out for Remus; it's really rather childish.
Sirius gave a firm nod, "because going after Remus would do more than just put him out on his ass." He didn't like it at. A childish rivalry was one thing... but... that was too far.
Rose nodded, reaching out to grip Elias' hand. "I hope he got the message I sent in my essay though.... and that he learned to properly wash his hair."
Sirius barked out a laugh. "Moony, your sister's one of a kind. How many stories have you told her? It almost seems like she has a natural response that seems to reflect each of us."
"Minus Peter, thank you very much," Rose said, smiling. "You haven't seen me at my Lily yet."
“Ow,” Elias said rubbing his ribs where she jabbed him. He gives her an eyebrow waggle. “What was that for?” He knew what that was for, but he wanted her to say it in front of everyone, though it was fifty-fifty in his mind if she would end up saying it if he pushed it like this.
---
Remus’s brow furrowed when she mentioned a past boyfriend. He hadn’t heard about this guy before and he was a little bit worried that she would leave him for – stop it Remus, remember what you told Rose? Let it be. Then again, how was he shaping up compared to him? Was he a better boyfriend? He doubted that.
It was Christmas. He let it slide for now. But he kept it stowed away for later discussion. “I told you I was a champion at red light green light.” He gave Rose a shrug and a chuckle. “Either way, while I may be her brother, I am old enough to be her father. If I was highly irresponsible, but still possible.”
Then the subject was Severus Snape, and while yes, Severus did overstep his bounds a bit, he still subbed for him in his time of need. He stood by and let Severus be bullied by his friends, and here Severus was helping him, even if while helping him he was kicking and screaming the whole time.
“I’ve told her plenty, but not quite enough it seems.” Remus looked at her seriously and then at Sirius, “No matter your feelings towards Severus, he is helping. The students do deserve to learn how to defend themselves from their own professor if he ends up not getting enough potion.” He placed a hand on a fresher scar on his chest, though the shirt separated them. “I don’t believe he would reveal me to the world – Dumbledore wouldn’t allow it. So long as I don’t pose any actual threat, he cannot do anything about it. Please, don’t insult Severus. He’s done a lot for me when he really didn’t have to do anything. Especially since I don’t deserve his help for how he was treated during our years at Hogwarts together.”

"You know exactly what for," she said, eyeing Elias, sticking her tongue out.
Rose screwed up her face in thought for a moment, "nah. Not old enough to be my dad. That's weird. You would've had-"
She really didn't need to be doing that math. You're my brother, and that's enough. Moving on~"
Well, now she was thoroughly scolded and she sighed, looking guilty, "yes, okay, Dad" she said teasingly and then muttered under her breath. "His hair is still greasy."
* * *
Tonks was getting quite good at sensing him beginning to spiral; he seemed to have caught himself as well, so she did what she did best and distracted him, for the moment - touching his chin, to turn his attention to her, before pressing a kiss to his lips with a smile - and it seemed that moment, was when Rose's eyes settled back on them and Rose blushed darkly, turning away. Tonks chuckled softly. "Shall we get to those presents, Remus?"
"Presents!" cheered Rose, throwing her hands up. Unfortunately, her wand was in one hand and her wand shot off a shower of sparks.
"Oops. Wow, I haven't done that since I was little!" Rose giggled.
Elias sticks his tongue out at her as well in response. The two were the biggest dorks around, and he was teasing her obviously. He gave Sirius one last quick glance before looking to Rose and admiring her beauty, so she wouldn’t feel too left out. “Did you read my mind? If you did, you would have heard how I compared you to the sweetest rose.”
--- “Rose, I was 17 when you were born,” He just stares are her and shakes his head with a chuckle. It wasn’t like he wanted to be her father – though he had thought about being a father before, only to crush his own hopes and dreams of having a family that loved him because he could possibly pass on his affliction to a child. “… It is. I actually bought him a present and sent it to him anonymously this year.” Remus winks. “I went shopping and saw some shampoo. I couldn’t resist.”
Remus hummed into the kiss, forgetting the world around him, grounding himself and feeling stronger in the denial of his doubts that had formed in his head. He grinned when she pulled back, suggesting presents, but then his face suddenly turned bright pink when he heard Rose speak up. He had momentarily forgot they were in the presence of others – namely his sister who likely didn’t want to see her brother snogging anyone. Unless they were Sirius. Because he wasn’t going to hear the end of that one.
“It’s adorable. You’re excited. I don’t… blame you. This is the first Christmas in a long while I’ve spent with anyone.” He gave a sad sort of smile and pulled out his bag, flicking his wand and each person was delivered a present – Tonks and Rose each got two though. “I had a little from my wages. I hope you like them.”
Post by Rose Ameile Hunter on Aug 1, 2018 5:50:04 GMT
She grinned at Elias, "oh, stop, you." She flushed slightly, rolling her eyes and then pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth. Not quite full on, because she knew Remus was watching. Silly overprotective brother. Only Merlin knows when he's gonna pull Elias away for the whole 'what is your intention with my sister' talk. She giggled to herself.
"Seventeen you might've been when I was born, yes. But nine months before that, you were not. So, no not old enough. You're getting all overprotective over me 'growing up too fast' and there you go suggesting such a thing," she stuck out her tongue at him and her eyes slide over to Tonks. "While I like Tonks, I much prefer her as my sister, thanks."
Tonks finally understood why Rose was reeling slightly at the idea. "Yes, that would indeed be... strange."
Sirius chuckled, "I have a feeling you'd be a handful for her, Rose if that had been the case."
Rose shook her head, "aaaaand that subject needs to drop now."
At the mention of shampoo, she giggled. "Oh, so I get reprimanded, but you get to send him shampoo? Ugh, Remus! Unfair!"
Finally, presents. Rose was excited - as seen by the shower of sparks, of course. The last time she remembered such accidental magic was her first show of magic - new years, she had wanted more fireworks - she got fireworks. Though, the shower of sparks was a much smaller scale of the accidental release of magic. At least it hadn't been something boring, like bouncing or something.
She had gone all out this year. She had picked up an old issue of Witch Weekley and finally learned how to get knitting needles to knit on their own. She really needed to work on her domestic spells - she prefers doing things the muggle way, but she had been short on time and had like, five sweaters to knit.
"Ahh, this is gonna be such a Weasley thing to do, but I couldn't help it. I made jumpers for everyone!"
The first she handed off was to Elias, she hadn't bothered to wrap anything because she was just so proud of herself with them.
"I finally got around to practising domestic spells - while I prefer the muggle ways of going about things most of the time - I knew I was going to need them eventually. She shot a wink at Remus, knowing full well what she was insinuating there, and wanting to rile up his 'big-brother' senses.
Elias' was a steel grey number, corded and delicately pattered, much like this.
Next off was Sirius, which was a simple maroon one. "You look like you need your colours, back," she said with a grin. It was long and a loose knit, a little like this. "You also struck me as androgynous in nature, so I hope you don't mind me too presuming."
Sirius looked over the sweater and then back to Rose, whose face filled with an alarmed look at the swirl of emotion in his eyes. He was suddenly up on his feet bringing Rose into a hug, where she awkwardly pat his back. Sirius made a great show of a sniff and he looked to Remus, "dammit Moony. Your sister is a godsend."
Rose chuckled slightly, but Sirius grip tightened as he spoke again, vehemently. "I swear if anyone hurts you, I'll end them."
"Remus can you peel your boyfriend off of me please before he embarrasses himself. Honestly, I think he's a tad too charmed."
Tonks rewarded the joke with a laugh, shaking her head. She wondered if Sirius had really become that overwhelmed with emotion or had just been sucked into Rose's charm. Cause the mood she was expelling right now was very hard to ignore.
Rose was freed from the hands of Black (who was also pushed back down into his chair before anyone -coughEliascough- could do anything else) and she turned her attention to her brother. "And this! This is my pride and joy for this year and I know how much you like your cardigans."
She held the sweater up, it was obviously the one she had hand knitted herself, it's main colour was as dark as the night sky, but decorated within that darkness were streaks of light, like shooting stars. Silver strands of wool, creating that shooting star effect.
She winks, smiling, and turned to Tonks, handing her a neon pink fuzzing sweater. "And obviously, for the most punk witch of all. Bright neon pink."
Tonks grinned, "rad. How'd you know?"
Rose pointedly looks up to her hair, "lucky guess, really."
Tonks giggled, pulling the sweater over her head. "You really did master those spells quickly huh?"
Rose gave a shrug. "Eh, well. I'm good at a lot of things, not everything, but for some reason, charm work just happened to be one of my stronger points. Not sure if it's because I'm a Ravenclaw.. or what."
Rose grinned, "but I have one more gift for my dear brother."
She turned to him again, fishing the object out of her jacket picked. She holds up a watch, it looked nothing more than just an ordinary watch to an outsider, but she knew Remus would understand. "For later consideration, of course."
Not leaving room for argument, and to spoil the happy moment, she slides the watch into his pocket and retreats back to the couch to open up her presents from Remus, still smiling.
Tonks opened her presents and caught Remus' lips in thanks, however, a thought suddenly crossed her mind. The note! Everyone was in such a good mood, this just seemed like the right time to do such an act. "Ah, and I think I have one more from you here, Remus, given in advanced."
She pulls out the tucked away note and the Rose was suddenly paying very apt attention. Tonks had shown her the note before and after inspecting it (but not opening it) Rose had a very keen idea on what secret that piece par parchment held. "Ooh, Tonks! An advanced gift. Remus, you sneaky dog."
Tonks catches Remus eye, and began to unfold the note...
[attr="class","mbox"]Elias grinned accepting the kiss, though when his eyes flashed over to Remus he caught a very intense glare at him. Oh boy. This was going to be exciting. He was pretty sure Remus was going to give him the whole ‘you’re dating my sister’ talk and making sure he wasn’t playing around with her or going to break her heart or anything. Honestly, he was fine with that. He already had a plan on how to approach it – and it was to be completely upfront and honest. He understood it was because Remus loved his sister, and so they had that in common.
---
“Oh,” Remus stared at Rose for a few moments. Just moments ago, he was talking about how she and Elias were too young and now he is saying he was old enough to be her father… which would mean he’d have had to do things when he was their age. Was she really that old? Then again, 16 was still very young – but still possible. However, when she mentioned Tonks, he realized exactly why that would be odd. Tonks was only 4 years older than her, and he was dating her. There were plenty of stories about guys marrying girls that were younger than their kids and while that wouldn’t be the case… yeah, he agreed, that was weird.
Maybe his argument of him being too old for her was making more sense to Rose now.
“Yes, I do get to send him shampoo because I am a colleague, not a student.” He gives her a mischievous wink.
---
When the presents came out Elias looked excited. He took the sweater from Rose and gave her a quick peck on her cheek. “This is beautiful. Almost as beautiful as you, my dear.” He laughs and slides it over his shirt. “Perfect fit too.” He grins, standing up and posing as if he were modeling for a magazine.
---
Remus smiled gently watching her hand out sweaters, before she finally got to him, and he looked at the sweater with wide eyes, running a hand over it. “Brilliant.” His voice was soft, the kind of excitement that was silent showing on his face. He pulled Rose into a quick hug as thanks and set it to the side as he was already wearing a sweater to keep warm – he’d put it on later.
Then the watch came out and Remus stared at it, forcing tears to stay back as he looked at it. Freedom. That’s basically what she just handed him. But he was afraid of it, very, very afraid of it. Even still he took the watch and gave her a small nod.
Swallowing, Remus quickly spoke up as he handed out the wrapped gifts. “I really hope you like what I got for you…” He didn’t think he could top the watch, even with how terrifying it was for him, but he hoped they would enjoy them.
Rose had two presents: one was one of his old sweaters – he had found out that she had wanted one of them when she was younger, and so he had packaged it up for her this Christmas. Of course, it wasn’t high quality, but it wasn’t too worn out. The second was a really nice candy bar from Honeydukes.
For Sirius, he got a package containing a flea collar, and then several prank sweets – he had gotten one of his students to buy them from the Weasley twins, though they weren’t technically for sale – they were just experimental after all. “The Weasley twins would give us a run for our money – I think you’d enjoy some of their products so…” As if he needed to explain himself.
For Elias, he received a really nice-looking hand mirror wrapped in a shirt stating the rules he would have to follow to date Rose. Rose probably would recognize it as something Remus had from his days with James. “It’s a magical mirror,” Remus explained, “It’s uh, technically not from me – consider it a gift from James Potter. It will show you the thing you want to see the most in it. If you’re worried someone is in trouble, it can show you what is going on with them – or if you really want to see yourself, it’ll act like a normal mirror.” Remus had found it in one of his trunks buried at the bottom and… well, if it worked like it was supposed to – he did see a rat in it before he wrapped it up. But he couldn’t tell where unfortunately.
Finally, for Tonks, there were two presents, just like for Rose. In one package there was a book inside, with a pale blue ribbon marking a page. The book? Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit by John Lyly, and the page marked had a quote highlighted with magic:
"The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war."
The second had a very cute wolf plush wrapped in a ‘Weird Sisters’ shirt. In the plush’s eyes had numbers. There was a note in its collar which was a small compartment that could hold something small, but for now just a note and a hershey’s kiss was inside. The note was written by Remus obviously.
“His eyes count down the days until the next full moon. On the day of the full moon and through the night, he turns into a small human-looking doll.”
However, after the presents were opened, Remus’s eyes fell on the note in Tonks’s hands and he swallowed. “B-B-Be careful, y-you don’t want to drop it – th-there’s something inside along with the note.”
This ring used to belong to my mother, Hope. She gave it to me before she passed away in the hopes I would find someone who could bring me hope – hope for a happier future.
In you, I have found that. I sincerely hope you accept this ring. I only have one question to ask you in return for this ring:
